The Self I Couldn’t Abandon

Sometimes, growing up means learning how to hide oneself. The idea of becoming an adult slowly tightens around the breath. Within endless expectations of composure and maturity, the childish heart is gradually pushed deeper out of sight, while innocent emotions remain tangled and unresolved within. Reality constantly tries to shape a person into a single version of themselves, yet emotions are never that simple. Suppressed feelings and a heart that never had the chance to fully grow find freedom only within dreams beyond reality. Yet dreams are not merely an escape, but the lingering trace of a self that could never truly be abandoned. The silver structures embody tangled emotions and imposed maturity, while the pearls hold onto innocence and anxiety not yet abandoned. Together, these silver remnants and traces of pearls reveal an alter ego caught between suppressed innocence and forced maturity — a self that could never be completely hidden. Even when concealed and overwritten, those lingering fragments remain. The childish self I tried to hide and the mature self I was forced to become were both still me.
